The Ned Kelly Bar

Beacon Square, Soi Luea Suk and Sukhumviit Soi 50, Prakhanong, Bangkok 10260

Open daily, 5:00 pm until midnight

First opened on 31 July 2019, Ned Kelly’s is a small neighborhood bar, located in a community food plaza, just off Sukhumvit Soi 50, opposite and just a bit past Tesco Lotus parking lot that is next to Onnut BTS Station.  .  With your back to Sukhumvit, you go 200 meters into the soi, past Rhythm Condo, to reach the pedestrian entrance to Beacon Square, on your right.

The Ned Kelly Bar took over the craft beer bar that used to be named – and still has much of the image and texture of – Dog Step bar.

Mixture of Thai and foreign expats – mostly locals.  Very neighborly place – very informal. and easy to strike up conversations with other customers.  Seating varies – indoors, they have stools along the bar, low chairs along the long wooden panel that runs along the window, and several tall tables and chairs along the wall that is in front of the main cooler for bottles and cans:

Outdoors, they have a total of about six tables, seating either two or four persons.

They have six draft beer taps, but presently have only one beer brand available – Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA.  They do have plans to add more draft beers.   All in all, they have a quite extensive, and well-chosen, beer menu:

As you may see above, they also offer wines, spirits, and local mass-market Thai lager beers.

There is no big menu, but they do sometimes offer both mini-pizza-bread, and tortilla strips with salsa:

It is also easy to order pizza from Rolling Stone Pizza, which is located on the opposite side of the main walkway from the bar – less than ten meters away.

In bottles and cans , they have about 75 craft beers – including some very good choices:

The bar has one large video screen – it was showing a English Premier League  football game, on the day that I visited.

This entire shopping plaza features shared toilets, which are located via a passageway located about 25 meters down the main pedestrian walkway from the bar – and then turn right.

Parking is located at the far end of the pedestrian walkway, farthest from Sukhumvit Soi 50.

The bar is named after a famous 19th Century Australian outlaw:

The bar has two Thai barmaids – both of whom speak English, and are quite attractive.

OK – let me try explaining to would-be commenters what this website is all about.  It is about:

1.  People who are interested in craft beer.

and about

2.  People who are  presently (or were recently) in Bangkok, Thailand

Unless BOTH of the above  conditions apply to you – then WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?????

If the answer is that you are trying to get your “this is what I do/sell” website included in your “commentor’s identity”  tag line – you need to know that in 2019, I sent about 6,850 such comments into SPAN or TRASH.   I am not interested in “intelligent, but irrelevant thoughts” – all I care about are comments about craft beer, or about visits to posted locations in Bangkok.

Now – am I a purist?  Well – not really.   The first guy (or gal) who sends US $50 to the PayPal account payments@indo-siam.com, including stating their identify, will get their next “inappropriate” comment approved.   The second contributor needs to send US $75 – and I raise the limit by US $25 for each contributor who joins the queue – until I have received the fourth contribution.  After #4, the rate become US $150 per comment – for everyone else, until January 1, 2021.   “Zero comments” is fine – I never expected parasites to make comments – ever.

If you have no money, then the one other way to get on my good side is to register for a  no-cost Bitcoin game – see  https://bangkokbeerguru.com/getting-started-with-bitcoin/

You know a whole lot its almost tough to argue with you (not that I actually would want to…HaHa).
You definitely put a brand new spin on a topic which has been written about for many years.
    Wonderful stuff, just excellent!
