This is a fairly large, upscale Mexican restaurant located off Sukhumvit Soi 2, in what used to be the rear entrance to the Rajah Hotel parking lot. I include it on this website because it is the only place I know of in Bangkok that serves Mexican craft beers.
It is located about ten minutes walk from Ploenchit BTS Station. To get to the bar, take Exit 4 off the Station, bearing right at the first stairway landing, and walking along the extended elevated Skywalk. When you reach street level, continue straight ahead for 250 meters, passing under the expressway overpass , and crossing the train tracks and the WIDE intersection of Duang Phithak Road (aka “tobacco road”). You pass in front of Krung Thai Bank, and the in front of Ploenchit Center, which sits on the corner of Sukhumvit Road, and Sukhumvit So 2.
Turn onto Sukhumvit Soi 2, and go past the J.W. Marriott entrance on your left for a total of 250 meters. Just as you reach the Majestic Grande hotel on your right side, turn into the wide parking lot entrance on your left. The Mexican is to your right front, 40 meters ahead.
This is a very substantial place:
They can easily seat 60-80 people.
They have a full-sized pool table:
They also have two small front decks, where smokers can indulge themselves, or where you can sit outside when the weather is suitable:
They have an extensive menu here – and the food is quite good. You can access their menu on-line via a data base link at near the top of their website.
They offer a range of typical mass market beers on draft, but to draft craft beer. What they do have is five different Mexican bottled craft beers – although they are produced by a subsidiary of beer giant Grupo Modelo.
None of these beers are the “best of breed” that I have had. But all are reasonably drinkable, and they seem to harmonize well with the Mexican food served at the Mexican.
The restaurant is run by Roberto – who is Mexican – and his two American partners, Dennis and Bonnie. They are all real professionals in the hospitality business.
The music here is generally Mexican theme music. No video screens.
Toilets are off hallway located back in the corner, behind the pool table. Spacious, clean, well-maintained:
Paid parking is available immediately in front of the bar.
