Taproom Ari is the “little sister” bar to the Taproom 26 bar on Sukhumvit Soi 26. Taproom Ari is located less than 150 meters from Ari BTS Station, just above the “T” in the “T” intersection of Pahahanyothin Soi 7.and Soi Ari 1. It occupies commercial space built into the ground floor of th Noble Reform condominium.,
To reach this bar, Exit BTS Ari using Exit 3. Upon reaching the street, double back 180 degrees to your right, and walk 60 meters to Phahanyothin Soi 7, then turn left. Walk another 30 meters, and you will reach the “T” intersection of Phahanyothin Soi 7 and Soi Ari 1. Look to your right front, across the intersection, and you should see Taproom Ari, about 40 meters away, built into the space that used to be known as just the coffee shop Casa Lapin X Aree – the two businesses now share the space.
The taproom Ari is in between the two white vertical pillars, in the photo above.
Its is easier to see at night:
From the point at which the preceding photos were taken, you cannot walk directly to any of the shops in view. Instead, you must walk 40 meters farther, to the left, to enter via the entrance to the Noble Reform condo complex, and then walk back to the right:
Once you enter the bar, you see this straight ahead:
The view to your left:
Two things you will notice in the pictures, taken at 6:45 pm on a Wednesday night:
- Almost no one is drinking beer. As of 7:30 pm, I was one of four out of 14 customers who was drinking alcohol.
- Five out of the 14 customers in the bar were working at their computers
Off to the right side as you enter is Casa Lapin’s coffee and pastry counter:
In all the bar had seat for roughly 35 patrons at tables, plus there were four seats at the bar.
They have 14 draft beers on tap:
Note that all pricing is “++” – so – remember that 18% will be added to your bill.
They serve to each customer a small complimentary bowl of peanuts, dusted with hot pepper powder.
As with their sister bar on Sukhumvit Soi 26, they serve you a small description card with your beer:
They do serve a limited food menu here: three types of pizza, plus a sausage plate, which comes with one chicken sausage, one pork sausage, and one bratwurst. I ordered the sausages – for 270 baht – and they were large, and good. But- if you are sensitive to spicy food, beware – the one sausage with bits of green and red peppers in it was QUITE spicy!
Music is easy-listening pop music, played at subdued level.
There is one toilet off a small hallway that is located behind the right side of the bar as you face it. One urinal, one sit-down toilet, and a hand-washing station – compact, but clean and well-maintained.
Clientele here is almost all Thai.
Joanne Simpson (“Jo”) is General Manager for both Taproom Experience bars. The bar manager at Ari so Khun “Luk-Gai” – baby chicken.
In this part of town, parking is available on one side of most streets.
The most unusual thing about this bar was its blending with a coffee shop, such that as of the time that I left the bar, at around 8:00 pm, most customers were not drinking alcohol.
