This is the smallest of the six HOBs locations in Bangkok. It is located on the ground floor level of the La Villa Aree shopping mall, immediately adjacent to the Ari BTS Station.
To get to HOBs Away, take Exit 4 off the Ari BTS Station. When you reach ground level, you will see:
Take the ramp immediately to the left of these steps, and continue walking straight in line with that ramp. You will pass a fountain water pool on your right, and then a Greyhound Cafe on your left. You will then end up right in front of the main entrance to Villa Market, on your right. With your back to that entrance, what you will see is:
HOBS Away is immediately on the other side of that Phoenix Lava stand.
This is mainly an open-air, outdoor bar – although the entire mall has a roof. to protect from rain. The indoor section is tiny:
The photo above shows eight of 12 total seats inside the bar!
There is also a bar with six draft beer on tap – none of them being craft beer:
Two Leffes, two Hoegaardens, one Stella Artois, and Boddingtons Draught Bitter (Ugh! Scoring 8/2 on Ratebeer – and that’s being too generous).
But -they did have a reasonable selection of bottled craft beers, is a row of elevated coolers behind the bar:
I noted different offerings by brand as follows: 7 x Hitachino, 3 x Coedo, 2 x Ark, 1 x Vedett, 1 x An Union, 3 x Ballast Point, 2 x St. Bernardus, 2 x Rogue, 2 x Anderson Valley, 2 x Mikkeller, 4 x Brewdog, 2 x St. Fueillien, Speakeasy x 1, Kona x 2, Lost Coast x 3, 8-Wired x 3, La Chouffe x 2, Duvel x 1, Estralla Damm x 4.
They had bottled wheat beers and Pilsners from Hacker-Pschorr, Paulaner, Franziskaner, and Krombacher.
Finally they had imported Thai expatriate bottled beers from Sandport, Full Moon, Happy New Beer, Red Dot, and Stone Head.
The exterior seating at this bar was bigger – I estimated that they could seat at least 40 people. Smoking was only allowed in the outside section of the bar. They were playing easy-listening pop music at moderate level.
Clientele here was almost all Thai.
On the wall, inside the bar, they have a breath tester for presumed blood-alcohol level. You insert 2 x 10 baht coins, insert a straw into an aperture, and then blow into the straw. Instructions were in English:
The bar has no toilets of its own. In order to reach the mall toilets, exit the bar and turn left – return to the spot in front of the main entrance to Villa Market, turn left, and walk to the rear of the mall. Off to your right, you will see the toilet area. Toilets are heavily used, but well-maintained:
Parking is available in the Villa Market parking garage.
