Small neighborhood bar, located in a community food plaza, just off Sukhumvit Soi 50, opposite and just a bit past Tesco Lotus parking lot. With your back to Sukhumvit, you go 200 meters into the soi, past Rhythm Condo, to reach the pedestrian entrance to Beacon Square, on your right.
This bar has recently expanded, and now has both an indoor, air-conditioned section,. and and outdoor section. No fancy ambiance – everything is pretty basic – the emphasis is on the beer. There is indoor seating for about ten persons. Outdoors, they have about ten tables, each with two seats, but with three pairs of tables normally arranged so that four persons can sit together.
Customers are free to smoke only in the outdoor section , which has small ashtrays at most tables.
Dog Step serves an assortment of German sausages – not very large, or filling. They also serve roast pork knuckle. My preference is a generous cardboard basket of corn chips that they serve, with salsa, for 99 baht.
Mixture of Thai and foreign expats – mostly locals. Very neighborly place – very informal. and easy to strike up conversations with other customers.
The proprietors are Thais: Khun Kai-Mook, and her husband, Khun Dream.
They have just expanded to six beer taps, and most often are offering either local Thai artisanal beers, or imported Thai expatriate beers. 160 to 200 baht per glass mug, maybe 260 to 280 cc.
They offer approximately 20 different bottled beers – some Thai artisanal and imported Thai expatriate beers – but also some Belgian beers and German Weizen beers. Recently they also had Brewdog Punk IPA, Lost Coast Indica, and Ballast Point Big Eye available.
