Newly opened in mid-September 2017, this spacious bar and restaurant is located barely 100 meters from Ekkamai BTS Station. Exit the station via Exit 1, upon reaching street level, continue straight ahead for 25 meters to Soi Ekkamai (Sukhumvit Soi 63), and turn right. Walk 75 meters until you see a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop located right off the footpath. BEFORE you reach the ice cream shop, turn right into the entrance-way of the Civic Horizon hotel, and you will see:
Caveman Base is built into the ground floor of the Civic Horizon Hotel & Residence, on the side of the hotel facing the street. Looking at the above photo, you guide around to the right, to climb six steps steps up to the raised platform where the restaurant entrance is situated.
Upon entering the venue, you are in a pleasant room with high-ceilings, and the bar at the far end:
The theme of this bar is playing games. As may be seen in the above photo, there are racks to the left and right that contain board games of different types – and there are four-man and six-man tables distribute around, on which games can be played:
Players pay an hourly fee, but if your bar bill is sufficiently high, they “zero out” the hourly game-playing fee.
There are also couches to one side of the bar, which face large video screens, for use by groups of video game players:
There are no seats at the bar. The format here is – you go to the bar to order food, and initial drink – which are the brought to your table.
There is outside seating for smokers, on a “deck” that is raised a meter or so above street level:
They offer three Belgian beers on draft, plus a selection of 18 “standard” bottled craft beers:
They also offer three additional bottled craft beers on a monthly rotation – for November 2017, the rotating selections were:
They have a full kitchen here, specializing in serious meat-eater’s fare:
For a “rustic” touvh, food is served on wooden “sections” of a tree trunk – see for example:
There are two “regular” overhead video screens – one at each end of the room – showing sports programming. Music is easy-listening pop music, played at background level.
There are separate men’s and women’s toilets off the right rear corner of the room (from the venue entrance) they are spacious, and spotless.
Parking is available at the adjacent hotel – Caveman Base can stamp your parking ticket, to give you free parking.
Caveman Base is operated by an enthusiastic Thai couple, Danny and “Boat” – both of whom speak English and both of whom are involved in the day-to-day operations of the bar. They reported that during their first six weeks of operation, perhaps 90% of their clientele was foreigners.
