This cozy little bar opened in July 2018, replacing the Beer Therapy bar that previously occupied this same space. It is located on a cross-street that connects Sukhumvit Soi 35 and Soi 39 – behind the EmQuartier Shopping complex. To get here, travel on BTS to Phrom Phong Station, and exit using Exit 3. At street level, double back around 180 degrees to your right, and walk 50 meters to Sukhumvit Soi 39. Turn left, and walk along Soi 39 for 600 meters until you come to Phrom Chai alley, on your left:
Turn left into this alley, and proceed ahead for 100 meters – past two Japanese Karaoke bars on your left – Maiko, and Big Box. The next building after Big Box is Cafe Amber. Viewed from the other direction:
An alternate way to travel to Cafe Amber is by way of Sukhumvit Soi 35 – it is shorter, but this route has a narrow to non-existent footpath, much of the way. From Sukhumvit walk 450 meters north until you see Gedhawa restaurant on your right. Just past that location, turn right onto Phrom Chai Alley, and walk 100 meters until you see the bar on your right, as shown in the photo above.
The bar has only six seats indoors – along the bar.
Most seating is outside – on both sides of the entrance door, as seen above, and there is also a deck facing the street – it is behind the potted plants at the left side of the photo above. There is outdoor seating for about 35 persons. Here is a photo of the street-side deck, viewed from inside the bar – there are a half dozen seats along a rail overlooking the street:
The bar has six taps – overlooking the bar:
There is a draft beer menu on the wall farthest from the street:
hey have three beer coolers behind the bar, with about 50 different bottled craft beers. All of the draft beers, and about 85% of the bottled beers on offer were beers distributed by local beer distributor Amber Spot Co., Ltd. – which is a business partner of the bar. See their beer brands at: Amber Spot Co., Ltd. Beer Brands
They have one video screen along the wall farthest from the street – it was showing music videos at the time of my visit. Music was contemporary pop music, played at a subdued level.
They presently serve no food, but the staff indicated that starting later in August, they would be introducing a limited menu of bar snacks and simple foods – they have a kitchen, with a pass-through window into the bar.
The bartender was “Ken”.
Smoking is permitted only in outdoor seating. The toilets are located about 30 meters from the bar, off of the drive path back to the very substantial parking lot:
The toilets are compact, but spotlessly clean.
This bar is worth a visit.
