2203 – Rural Food & Homey Bar

74/78 Soi Vibhavadi Rangsit 16/10 Bangkok, Thailand 10900

Open daily, except Wednesdays,11:00 am until 11:00 pm, with alcohol served onkly 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, and then again from 5:00 pm onward

This small restaurant and bar is located about one kilometer west of the Ratchadapisek MRT Station.  From that station, use Exit 1.  Once you step onto the sidewalk from the station, turn right, and walk 60 meters to Ratchadapisek Soi 19.  Turn right, and walk 80 meters to a “T” Intersection, with a 7-Eleven store “crossing the T.”   Turn left here, and walk 125 meters until you reach an intersection marked as shown:

Turn right here, at Soi 16/32.  You now have a 900 meter walk ahead of you, walking west on this soi.  You will eventually see on your left a residence called SMC, with this sign at the sidewalk:

Once you are past this sign, start looking ahead and up, for a pair of signs (illuminated at night) – one for Pier 39 (another restaurant), with a smaller sign below it, for 2203:

These signs are above the entrance to a soi – you want to take a left into that soi.  As soon as you make that left, you will see in the distance, on the right side of the soi, an illuminated square sign for 2203:

In the photo above, that sign is behind and above the silver SUV – it is a red sign, with white lettering – about 100 meters into the soi.  You must walk 20 meters PAST that sign, to the venue’s entrance:

Inside the restaurant, the main bar looks like this:

There are six rotating draft craft beers on tap, with the tap list on a white board that is posted over the tap handles:

They also have a double-wide cooler for bottled craft beers:

I was not very enamored with the draft beers that were on tap when I visited, but they had a wide assortment of bottled craft beers available. including at least one offering from each of the following brands:

And Union
De Molen
Le Trappe
Full Moon
Changwon Express
Happy New Beer
Triple Pearl
St. Bernardus
Tripel Karmeliet

There are three seats at the main bar.   There is then a high bench-style table facing the bar, which can seat six – three on each side.

The main dining room is set up with one table for six, two tables for four each, and one high semicircular table for two.

There is also a side room, with sliding glass doors that can be closed to make it a private room, seating eight – and this room has the only video screen in this venue:

Just outside the main entrance is a chest-high wooden counter top, that would offer outdoor seating for three – but there were no chairs.   This is the only area where smoking is permitted – I suppose that smokers must stand – but they at least have a counter to set their beers on.

The restaurant is nicely decorated.   The music here is instrumental jazz, played at subdued level.

Service is excellent. They have a kitchen, and they serve a menu that includes pizza, pasta, grilled meats, several Thai dishes, and several light bar snacks – chicken wings and similar.

The Thai owner of this venue is also the chef.

The toilets here are off an alcove that is off to the right of the main bar, as you face it- extending behind the large oval 2203 emblem:

In the photo above, the entrance to the kitchen has the bluish-green lighting.  There are separate toilets for men and for women – the men’s toilet was spacious, and spotless:

I spoke with the owner’s very personable girlfriend, Khun Earn, who speaks excellent English, and who helps out as a waitress.  She indicated that the clientele here is typically more than 90% Thai.   From outside, I observed construction going on above the bar. Khun Earn indicated that the plan is to have a taproom upstairs, with a dozen or more draft craft beers on tap, and possibly a small kitchen of its own.  The downstairs area will then be primarily a restaurant.  They were hoping to open up the taproom in July – but it now looks as if construction delays may push the opening back a month or two.

There is off-street parking available about 30 meters past the venue entrance.   There is also limited parking available in a few spots along the soi outside.

Happy hour 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, and 8:00 pm until 11:00 pm – 20% off all draft craft beers.
