Advisory – Blocked Roads in Rama VI – Ari Area

The purpose of this news item is to alert anyone who is planning to visit the Ari area, and travel between several of the popular craft beers bars in that area, concerning some road blockages that are NOT indicated on Google Maps.

Specifically, in the area between HOBs Ari Gardens, and the Dok Kaew House Bar, three of the connecting sois between Rama VI Roads Soi 28 and  Soi 30 are blocked to car, motorcycle, and even foot traffic.   The three blocked sois are Ari Samphan 9, Ari Samphan 10, and Ari Samphan 11.

The map below shows the location of the blockages in fuzzy red “crayon”.   The six craft beer bars in the Ari area are also depicted in red font, next to red diamond symbols :

Soi Ari Samphan 8 is open between Rama VI Soi 28 and RamaVI Soi 30.

I do not know the reason for the blockages, which are in the form of metallic walls that completely close of the space between buildings on opposing sides of the street. Possibly, these are private roads, not under municipal control.

If you look very closely on Google Maps. there is a faint gray indication of the blockage on Soi Ari Samphan 10, and Google Maps will not indicate any travel route that runs the length of this soi.  But Sois Ari Samphan 9 and Ari Samphan 11 are shown as allowing free travel along their lengths – which you can even traverse using Google Streetview – but this information is no longer correct.
